The Caspian Sea is a sea of opportunity, as with the proper development of infrastructure, it can become a connecting hub for traffic flows, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated at the sixth Caspian Summit in Ashgabat on Wednesday.
The summit talks was attended by the leaders of the Caspian countries – President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, according to Turkmenistan’s Watan Habarlary news program.
During the talks at the expanded format, President Berdimuhamedov said, "I think it would not be an exaggeration to call the Caspian a sea of opportunities as a connecting hub for transport and transit flows of Eurasia along the East-West and North-South lines.”
“I am sure that the importance of the Caspian will only increase in the future. Therefore, our countries will have to work seriously on the construction and modernization of port infrastructure, building sustainable, reliable and efficient logistics schemes to turn the Caspian region into a comfortable, modern profitable space for international flows of goods and services,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov added.
The Head of Turkmenistan emphasized that the economic sphere is a priority for cooperation in the Caspian region.
"The unconditional priority of cooperation in the Caspian Sea is the economic sphere. It is multifaceted and includes transport, logistics, communications, energy, industrial cooperation and much more,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed.
The Turkmen President said the five Caspian countries have many tasks, and therefore Ashgabat proposes to instruct the foreign ministers to periodically hold meetings on priority areas of cooperation on all aspects of the five-sided agenda.
The sixth summit of the heads of the Caspian countries – Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia – resulted in the adoption of the final communiqué of the summit.
