A Conference was held in honor of awarding Ashgabat with the International Certificate "Trees in Cities"

26 April 2022

The solemn Conference dedicated to the awarding Ashgabat with the International Certificate for assistance and contribution to the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe "Trees in Cities" through greening campaigns was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

According to the State News Agency, the Forum was attended by representatives of the international organizations working in Turkmenistan, teachers and students of higher educational institutions of the country, as well as employees of domestic media.

As already reported, last week this good news came from the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva.

As noted in the speeches of the participants of this Forum, including the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Narine Sahakyan, the Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) Yegor Zaitsev, the state policy of Turkmenistan pays special attention to caring for nature, preserving and increasing its wealth as well as introducing the principles and technologies of the "green" economy.

A clear confirmation of this was the nationwide tree planting campaign launched by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the capital held in March of this year, timed to coincide with the International Day of Novruz - the National Spring Holiday.

As a result of this large-scale work, picturesque green and forest zones were established in Ashgabat and around it, the territories of which are increasing every year. Similar work, in particular, within the framework of the National Forest Program, is underway in all regions of the country. Over many years, more than 145 million tree seedlings have been planted in Turkmenistan.
