Presidential Candidate Registration Ends in Turkmenistan

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums (Central Election Commission) of Turkmenistan on Tuesday announced the completion of candidates’ registration for March 12 early presidential elections.
The same day, the Turkmen CEC registered and issued a presidential candidate certificate to Hydyr Nunnayev, Vice-Rector for Research at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports from Ashgabat initiative groups of citizens, and Maksat Odeshov, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan’s Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi etrap committee from the Dashoguz initiative groups.
Thus nine candidates for the highest state post of Turkmenistan have been registered since the start of presidential election campaign last Monday.
The registered candidates are Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the Deputy Governor of Mary province Agajan Bekmyradov, Chief Doctor at the Avaza sanatorium Berdymammet Gurbanov, Director of the Financial-Economic Secondary Vocational School of Lebap province Perhat Begenjov, Head of Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Babadayhan etrap of Ahal province Maksatmyrat Ovezgeldiyev, Director of Research-Production center "Renewable Energy Sources" of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan Kakageldi Sariyev, Director of Wepaly Gurluşyk company Babamyrat Meredov, as well as Hydyr Nunnayev and Maksat Odeshov.
The election campaign continues with the meeting of presidential candidates with voters.
Speaking at a Halk Maslahaty meeting on February 11, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said he had made a decision to give way to young leaders and entrust them with the state affairs at the new stage of development of the country.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov intends to further direct his huge life and political experience to his post of Chairman of Halk Maslahaty.
