Tajikistan Targets More LNG Imports From Turkmenistan

Tajikistan will expand the list of suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will buy more of the fuel from Turkmenistan, the Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma told reporters on Tuesday.

The minister listed Russia and Kazakhstan as the major suppliers of this fuel to Tajikistan.

Juma said Tajikistan will receive more gas from Turkmenistan, adding that an agreement was reached between the two countries to send an unlimited amount of this fuel to Tajikistan, according to Sputnik Tajikistan report.

In 2021, Tajikistan imported 5,000 tons of liquefied gas from Turkmenistan. Tajikistan’s total LNG imports amounted to 410,000 tons last year, including Of these, 360 tons came from Kazakhstan, and the rest from Russia, according to the report.

Within the framework of the talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Ashgabat in August last year, the government officials signed 19 documents on cooperation between the two countries, including on oil products and LNG.
