Turkmenistan Participates in 20th Meeting of SCO Heads of Government

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday participated in the 20th anniversary meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which discussed a wide range of issues of development of cooperation within the SCO.
Special attention was paid to deepening cooperation in trade-economic, investment and humanitarian spheres, including in the context of overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the official Turkmen media reports.
In his speech, the Vice-Premier said the SCO member states are Turkmenistan's long-standing traditional partners, neighbors and friends.
“It is also noteworthy that the interests of Turkmenistan and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization coincide in terms of strategic parameters. It is necessary to put these interests into practice, to fill them with real content, namely with the access to promising joint international projects. We think that there is the considerable potential of our cooperation in energy and transport, trade and investment, industry and agro-industrial complex, in the sphere of high technologies and innovations,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
At the end of his speech the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers conveyed the invitation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to all participants, members and observers of the SCO to take part in the International Ministerial Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries to be held in Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations in April 2022.
The SCO is an intergovernmental organization founded in Shanghai in June 2001. The organization’s headquarter is located in China’s capital, Beijing.
The main objectives of the SCO are to strengthen relations among member states, promote cooperation in political affairs, economics and trade, scientific-technical, cultural, and educational spheres as well as in energy, transportation, tourism, and environmental protection, safeguard regional peace, security, and stability; and create a democratic, equitable international political and economic order.
